Adding new paperbacks

The process for adding paperbacks has been simplified to make it as easy as possible. Basically, there are two parts:

-Adding to the catalog

-Processing

To add a paperback to the catalog, one must first search in Workflows to find a record for the item.

The first search one should run is by ISBN. The ISBN number is generally on the back of the paperback and on the front inside cover. Enter this number, without dashes into the search box, and search for “General”. If items come up, look at the records to make sure that they match the item in hand (Check Author, Title, Publisher, Format).

If you do not find a match by ISBN, you should try to find a match based on Author, Title, Publisher, and Format. To do this, run a search by title, and examine the results. If you find a record that has the same Title, Publisher, and Format, you can use that record.

When you find the right record to add your paperback to, you will need to create a call number and edit the item-level information.

The call number for paperbacks is very simple. It simply contains the genre/age group and “PB”. For example:

FICTION PB

MYSTERY PB

SCI FI PB

WESTERN PB

J PB

YA PB

E PB

E-R PB

We also have NONFICTION PB. The call number for these are dewey no. (In hundreds e.g. 100, 200 etc.)PB.For example:

100 PB
