ACPL Technology Goals and Objectives

Italicized "NOTES" discuss progress toward goals.

 

Provide greater access and more up-to-date materials and services to patrons

  • Improve patron workstations
    • Include workstation replacement in the library budget and create a firm system for replacing 1/3 of stations each year
      • Look into thin clients that RW/County IT suggested; only replace server instead of workstations 
    • Increase the number of patron workstations until it meets demand
      • Have space for another 1HR terminal and/or print management kisok 
    • Investigate features and peripherals that should be integrated into workstations
  • Improve digital services to patrons
  • Document Network topology
    • document where all wiring goes to and from
    • document all passwords
    • document regular maintenance duties 
  • Relocate server/networking equipment into dedicated Server Room (to be constructed with SEPT funds) 
  • Improve internet connectivity
    • investigate bandwidth shaping technology to prioritize web speed
    • limit bandwidth to wireless clients
      • users in library should have priority
    • investigate blocking torrent/p2p software
  • Relocate adult computers into on central area
    • express, catalog, word proc, and 1HR terminals in front of Wyoming Room
  • Print/Computer Management System
    • fix problem of patrons using more time than allotted
      • remove the burden of circ desk staff having to make periodic announcements about time limits to computer users 
    • fix problem of patrons printing out many pages and only pay for a few
      • only allowed to print after they have paid/put money on library card
  • Improve electrical outlets in YA, Children's, Circ Desk, 1HR areas
    • currently plugs are daisy-chained together
      • fire hazaard
      • messy looking
  • Improve Wireless Internet Access for Public Use
    • investigate replacing current "consumer grade" equipment w/ "professional grade"
    • investigate system to monitor/track usage stats
  • Revisit "Tech Deputies"
