Signage, Artwork and Decorations Updated

  • Big outdoor sign!
  • Create displays at end of shelves to aid in finding stuff and promote more books
  • Signage:  look at other institutions to help determine what works well (hospitals)
  • Fewer, more effective signs
  • Lesser, bigger and more uniform signage
  • Uniform signage

Cleaning, Decluttering, and Organizing / Routine Tasks

  • Every staff member should have a shelf reading assignment, to address weekly
  • Everyone should have a section to shelfread
  • I think we should establish a citizen advisory panel made up of member of the public to solicit ideas
  • Storage needs to be sensible and organized:  all office supplies together in space easy to access, custodial supplies, maintenance supplies, things to keep but not needed now, things to be sold
  • Weed collections
  • Throw more away
  • More new items = more weeding
  • All staff need to participate in throwing out:  one man's trash is another's treasure; inventory
  • Clean staff room
  • Clean out basement and AV - consolidate into one space
  • Clean up/organize map area
  • Not so much clutter - let's organize
  • Find better space or eliminate so many pamphlets, brochures, maps, posters, ads, etc. - Maybe one wall for everything
  • Less "flyers" all around the library - put them in one area and all holders of flyers in same type of holder

Improve Shelving

  • Newspaper "tree" - no hanging papers; free up space
  • No newspaper racks
  • DVDs need better shelving
  • Remove spinny racks
  • How to use spinney racks?  DVDs??
  • No books on top or bottom shelves
  • Lower book shelves with backing
  • Shorter shelves
  • Empty a set of shelving for ILL/holds
  • Folios are too low! Need better position!
  • We should get different magazine shelves
  • More slanted or special purpose (like paperback) shelving

Lighting

  • Continue to keep light from windows by placing low shelves in front of them – or seating
  • Improve lighting
  • Better lights for book sale area (Jennie P will pay)
  • Better lighting as [you] enter library
  • Skylights
