Technical Services Workflow

(MORE INFO NEEDED)

Items follow a fairly simple path through technical services to circulation to the patron:

The selectors for each age group and area purchase books and look at donations to determine which should be added to the collection.

Ordered items are received by Technical Services. When they arrive, they are placed on the selector shelf for decisions, with the order cards in them. The selectors then add any special cataloging requests to the cards, put them back in the items and place the items on their respective shelves for cataloging. If there are any problems with items (defective etc.), the selector informs Technical Services and TS contacts the vendor.

Along with ordered items ready for cataloging, the selectors place the gift items they have selected for cataloging directly onto their shelves with any notes regarding special cataloging requests.

After items have been selected and placed on the "ready" shelves, the catalogers take the items and add them to the database. See the Cataloging instructions for details on that.

From the catalogers, items go to the processors. These go onto carts, organized by day, to await processing.

When processing is completed, the catalogers take the items, perform final checking, and then they are discharged from the TS/Inprocess user and made available to the patrons.
