Shelving Procedures

 

 

Since a library is “an organized storehouse of the cultural records of mankind,” the library stands or falls on accurate shelving. In turn, accurate shelving depends on minute distinctions, a sharp eye, and a clear mind.

 

 

CODES: All books have spine labels (located on the spine of the book or on the front cover in the upper left-hand corner) with location codes. Read the codes from top to bottom, left to right. Below are the codes we use and their locations.
