New Card Procedures

  • Wyoming is a statewide system, which means that patrons with cards from other public libraries in the state can use their cards here.
  • If the patron has a card from another library but no longer has residency there, we do an overlay from their public library to our library.  Stephen emails the other library about the overlay, so please leave the application card in box on his desk after the overlay process.
  • OVERLAY PROCESS:  look up patron in system (User Display-enter name and ALL_LIBS) then modify user.  Mark on Application in Overlay From: the previous library. Under User ID Now scan new card and click on make more changes/Make sure you change library and profile name to ALBY take out any group ID if present.  Change address, phone, and email.  Now place in box on Stephens desk.
  • **NOTE** The only reason patron should have 2 cards in system  is if one is a Community College Card.  We do NOT Overlay Community College Cards.
  • If the patron does not have a library card from any library in Wyoming, we ask them to have a picture id and proof of current Laramie address. This does not have to be one article, i.e. can be a driver’s license, checkbook, lease agreement, forwarded mail. We can look up UW students using Wyoweb, which will work for proof of their current Laramie address. WyoTech students may use their school ids to get a library card because they have mail sent to their school office, which is located on their id. If the patron is under 18, a parent or legal guardian needs to sign for the patron to get a card.
  • It is MANDATORY for the patron to have proof of their Laramie address in order to apply for a card. If the patron is not an Albany County resident, they can get a nonresident card for $18.83. The patron must fill out the application with their permanent address.
  • Once the patron has shown these items of proof, have the patron fill out an application card and pick out a library card or a key tag. The patron cannot have both a key tag and card because the library card numbers do not match; they must choose between the two.
  • Make sure the patron has signed the signature line on the back of the application card. All the information will be put into the system, the patron’s name and date is printed Capital Letters on the front of the card and if time filed in drawers if not it is placed on the top middle circ computer with sticky note stating TO BE FILED.
  • Give the patron the library info brochure and let them know about their PIN number.
  • Explain to the patron that there is no limit on the amount of items that they can checkout, if they lose the card, it will cost $1.00 to replace, and if they forget their library card, they can use a valid picture id to check out items.
