JOB DESCRIPTION

PROCESSING CLERK

CLERK I

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Processing Clerk is responsible for processing duties associated with the Technical Services Department. The Processing Clerk reports directly to the Technical Services and Systems Librarian.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION: The Processing Clerk performs tasks relating to the preparation of library materials for circulation.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 

  • Stamping items.
  • Applying labels and stickers to items.
  • Typing labels and relabeling.
  • Gluing items.
  • Typing and attaching gift plates as needed.
  • Covering items with jackets or plastic.
  • Taping items.
  • Processing discs, tapes and other media.
  • Adapting unusual items for library circulation.
  • Other physical processing.
  • Mending damaged or worn items.
  • Checking that all work on items is complete before they leave the unit.
  • Tracking necessary supplies and informing the TSS Librarian when they need to be ordered.
  • Training and supervising other staff and volunteers to provide assistance in processing as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EXAMPLES OF GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Knows and follows library policy and procedures and can operate technology/software, pointing out problem areas and suggesting improvements.
  • Knows and follows safety procedures, pointing out problems and keeping equipment in satisfactory condition.
  • Keeps informed on library issues: attends staff meetings, reads and initials the log, keeps up with e-mail.
  • Keeps skills current and growing: attends required trainings, actively seeks opportunities to learn new things.
  • Contributes input and expertise to library decision-making.
  • Works well with others, including patrons, volunteers, and fellow staff.
  • Is flexible, has a good sense of humor about the irritations of daily work life, and respects the feelings and needs of co- workers.
  • Understands that change and evolving library procedures are constants in library work.
  • Is sensitive to patron privacy and intellectual freedom issues.
  • Is committed to public service values: is patient and helpful with all patrons and staff; values patron satisfaction above library rules.
  • Is a good office citizen: submits timecard weekly, keeps work and break area clean, responds to emails and requests promptly, has a positive attitude.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to perform repetitive tasks consistently and neatly. Must be able to work independently. Works well with others, and follows library policies and procedures. High manual dexterity. Good clerical skills.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. A good sense of humor is a plus. Experience with Sirsi and WYLD also a plus.

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Clerk I

VACATION: Up to a maximum of 30 days

SICK LEAVE: Up to a maximum of 60 days

RETIREMENT: Wyoming Retirement System. Individual contributes 5.57% and employer 5.68%

HOLIDAYS: Up to eleven a year depending on schedule
