CHILDREN'S COMMUNITY OUTREACH

BOOMERANG

New Children's Books published regularly (because Nora coordinates it and gets it done!)

Ask A Librarian (every once in a while Janet gets something written.....)

COLLABORATIONS WITH ORGANIZATIONS AND EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITY

0123 Parents and Children Together. This group is in the process of reorganizing (May 2008) and will continue to rely on regularly scheduled library programs to support their mission.

Albany County Reads. A local literacy advocacy group. ACReads provides grant money for programs, and library staff participates in their membership. Wyoming Reads for 1st graders is held in mid-May. RIF is another collaborator, sometimes in conjunction with ACReads.

Albany County School District #1.

In 2007, 2008 ACSD#1 provided funding for 24 hours/week of Stories @ the Parks hires through their BRIDGES program. S@Parks visits Summer School.

School visits. Schools request visits to their schools, and they request to visit the library for various programs throughout the school year. THE BIG ONE is when we go to year end assemblies to promote Summer Reading.

SACC (School Age Child Care). Provided at the Rec Center after school during the school year. 2006, 2007 ACPL provided storytimes as a service. Attendance was low, so discontinued. They continue to be invited to "No School Day" activities.

Working with Librarians to coordinate services. We've held a tea at the library (good turnout, but not a lot of reaction) and had drinks after work at  Altitude's (good turnout, positive contacts made)

Central Council PTA. Good to be on their agenda occasionally.

Kiwanis Christmas Party.

Children's staff member reads a Christmas story at the annual event. Done each year since 2003?

Laramie local parades. Great PR opportunities.

Laramie Jubilee Days Parade. Held on the final Saturday of Jubilee Days.

Homecoming Parade. Held in early October.

Christmas holiday parade. Have not participated. Held in early December in the evening. Brrrr.

Laramie County Community College: Children's Literature lecture.

Usually requested in February by Carol Miyake.

Preschools and Home daycare providers group (CHILD).

ACPL invites preschools to visit the library for storytimes. Several of these groups require community collaborations for grant funding. For 2007/2008 these included: Basic Beginnings (TANF grant support), Head Start (grant support), Hilltop (grant support), Developmental, PuddleDucks, Kids Connection, Bright Horizons.

Presentation to CHILD about how to read to groups of preschoolers.

Safety Fair. Laramie Police Safety Fair (formerly Youth Expo) has been revived for early June, held at the Ice Arena. Library attended June 15, 2008.

Zonta Events. No participation by Children's dept since 2003.
